The Center for Advanced Studies and Research in Information and Communication Technologies & Society coordinates and conducts studies and research programs in the vast field of new information and communication technologies and their interrelationship with society. The ICT&S Center’s core orientation:

• analysis of the social embeddedness of technologies
• development of valuable and socially responsible technical applications
• socio-scientific monitoring of technical applications
• bridging disciplinary, institutional, and geographical borders

For researchers

The main objective of the ICT&S Center’s research activities is to enhance the positive potentials of information- and communication technologies and to reduce their negative side effects. The current research foci are:

• HCI & Usability research, especially regarding interfaces
• Social- and communication-scientific research regarding the strategies of the information society, especially questions concerning social inclusion and participation

The ICT&S Center invites the interested public and representatives from business and politics to research presentations on a regular basis. We would be happy to welcome you to one of these events in the near future.

For project partners

Our project partners benefit from our research in the form of first-class data on various aspects concerning the potentials, side-effects, the impact, and the value of information- and communications technologies. Our research is highly interrelated within our internal research clusters as well as with the external industry to ensure that our results are down-to-earth and as profitable as possible.

For students

The ICT&S Doctoral Academy provides an educational foundation to its students that is applicable for building inter- and transdisciplinary relationships in order to meet the challenges of the upcoming information and knowledge based society. It's the ICT&S Center's philosophy to explicitly focus on the problems where individual disciplines reach their limits.

For all students of the University of Salzburg the ICT&S Center additionally provides a wide variety of supplementary studies and specific course modules that can be combined with all studies and therefore upgrade their studies with additional qualifications.
